Jo Brooks from Star Lane, Dunmow, contacted the Broadcast asking what had happened to the willow tree at the Doctor's Pond saying "it looked a sorry state". We contacted the town council to ask what was happening. "I admit that it looks a bit drastic at the moment," said town clerk Owen Wilson, "but I can assure you everything is all in order with the willow tree." Mr Wilson explained that the work was carried out on the advice of a professional tree surgeon and has been cut back for the long term benefit of the tree.
"It is all part of the council's tree management programme," he said. "People may remember other trees in the town being pollarded a couple of years ago. This work will guarantee a healthy life for the future of the tree.
