HATFIELD Forest has some great events to keep children (and adults!) amused and busy throughout the holidays this August.

Challenges, survival skills and even open air plays are all on offer for people of all ages from August 1 to August 28.

Re-enactment company St Josephs will recreate medieval life with demonstrations throughout the first weekend the month. This is a free event and no booking is required.

Suitable footwear is recommended for the Forest Survival Skills day on Tuesday August 4, from 10 to 3pm. Learn how to build a shelter and more - the event is ideal for supervised children. Prices start at �18 for a group of two.

Friday Forest Fun will run on Friday August 7, 14 and 28 in the lake area. The days run from 10.30 to 3.30pm (arrival can be at any time).The price is �2 a child and no booking is required.

Games, scavenger hunts and puzzles of Wild Child Wednesday will run from 12.30 to 4pm on Wednesday August 19. The event is �3 per child, no booking is required and arrival can be at any time.

Parade your pooch at the Dog Fun Day on Friday August 21 from 11 to 3pm in a variety of demonstrations, interactive displays and competitions, including the Waggiest Tail! Costs are �6 a hound, which includes competition entry,

Open Wide Theatre presents The Tale of the Town Mouse and the Country Mouse, by Beatrix Potter on Friday August 21 from 5.30 to 7.30pm. Those who arrive in fancy dress receive free face painting. Prices start at �7 for one person and booking is advised.

Bat Walks will run from 8 to 9.30pm from August 24 to 28. Look out for some of the nine species of bat in the forest. Tickets are �7 per adult, �5 per child and �20 per family. Booking is essential.
