Felsted School welcomed Michael Sharp, chief executive officer of Debenhams as their guest speaker for the 2016 Cromwell Lecture.
Mr Sharp described going from an trainee aged 18, to becoming CEO. The event, which was hosted by Felsted Library, brought together Felsted Sixth Form students, staff, parents and the community.
Nichola Martin, Felsted librarian, said: βIt was an inspirational talk that provided plenty for the audience to contemplate, focusing on family, dedication and hard work, embracing change and the qualities to be found in leaders.β
The next event, to be held September 27, will be The Butler Lecture, given by Old Felstedians Angus and Bella Collins, who have completed record-breaking rows of the Atlantic.
