PUTTING pen to paper was the aim of an event organised by the Essex Craft Society at the Maltings last weekend.

The highlight of the show was a 'try me' table where visitors of all ages tried their hand at Calligraphy guided by Jan Jeffreys.

Outside, Clarissa Cochran encouraged her audience to try dyeing cloth with Indigo in the Shibori style, folding and crumpling the cloth before dipping it into the vat.

Both she and Jan were encouraged by a number of enquiries to join their courses.

Nick Abbott, organiser and furniture-maker, said: "This is always a friendly gathering. Individually we enjoy the chance to talk to makers whom we would not otherwise meet for months as well as the chance to explain what we do to visitors."

Anyone wanting to join the Essex Craft Society should call Mr Abbott on 01371 872705 for more details.
