FORTY years of the Dunmow Flitch Friendship Club were celebrated by more than 120 members at a summer buffet last Tuesday.
People started to arrive at 5pm by which time the tables were laid and decorated.
The Foakes Hall was garlanded with red ribbons and balloons, and the curtains on the stage
hung with streamers of metallic 40s.
Glynis Smith, the club's entertainments organiser, donated a ruby and white cake in the figures 40, that had been made by Jan Jeffries. The entertainment was provided by Kevin Christie, who arranged music for dancing, and enough quips and jokes and impersonations to keep everyone laughing.
During the interlude, a free draw was held. June Sorrell won a big basket of fruit.
The event was free thanks to a £300 donation from the Town Mayor's Charity Community Fund.
