Ambulance crews in Essex have been rated as among the best in England in a report.

The county was one of only three out of 31 former ambulance services to receive two 'good' ratings in a report published by the Healthcare Commission.

The Essex Ambulance Service, which in July became part of the East of England Ambulance Service, received 'good' scores for service quality and use of resources, placing it in the top 40 per cent and top 15 per cent, for NHS organisations.

Dr Chris Carney, chief executive of the East of England Service, said: "We are very pleased with this result, which is testament to the skills and dedication of the staff and management of the old Essex Ambulance Service.
