THE children of Takeley Primary School have raised over �500 for a Christian charity.
Send a Cow helps poor famers in nine countries in sub-Saharan Africa to become self sufficient by providing them with livestock, training and advice.
The school children helped raise money for the cause by taking part in the charity's Read to Feed scheme. They were sponsored to read books about life in Africa, farming, climate and the environment.
Christine Middleton, a volunteer ambassador for the charity, received a cheque from the school last week.
She said: "The money will be used to help poor farmers in sub-Saharan Africa to work their way out of poverty and to become self-sufficient.
"That can be by improving the productivity of their land and being given good quality animals which will provide milk and eggs for the family and for sale to provide an income."
