Two bloggers took a 160-mile road trip to help the Sport Relief charity baton on its route from Lands End to John O’Groats.

Kelly Robertson of blog A Real Bride’s Guide and Michelle Garrett of blog The American Resident – Team Chelmsford – were charged with the responsibility of delivering the baton to the next leg of the 3,000 mile person- to-person relay in Southwold, Suffolk.

The Team Honk Relay was launched two weeks ago in Lands End and will see the baton passed through up to 200 bloggers as it zig-zags it way across the country to John O’Groats, finishing on March 23 – Sport Relief weekend.

The duo, of Ford End, started their leg of their road trip up the A12 and A14 to Southwold Pier Monday week ago.

Writer Kelly, who launched her wedding blog eight weeks ago after marrying last summer, said: “It has been a wonderful experience, being a part of something so huge, knowing the baton we carried will pass through 200 people and travel the whole length of the country.

“So many people have completed impressive and fun antics to get the baton to the next step of the journey, from bike rides to school runs wearing onesies and toddles with children. Team Southend delivered the baton to us after running and walking the 20 miles across the county.

“With Michelle blogging about being an American living in Britain, we thought it would be fun and appropriate to do a US-style road trip as we had such a long journey to complete.”

She added: “We would urge anyone keen to support the work of Sport Relief this year to do so via the Team Chelmsford.”

The event is the latest project by Team Honk, a group of bloggers who adopted Comic Relief as their charity last year and raised £10,000 from various events.

The goal this year is to double that, with 38 regional teams challenged to raise £500 each. Follow the baton’s journey at #teamhonkrelay on Twitter.

As one of the biggest fund-raising events, Sport Relief brings the nation together to get active, raise cash and change lives.

The money raised is spent by Comic Relief to help transform the lives of some of the poorest and most disadvantaged people both at home in the UK and across the world.
