Chess fan Greg Thompson, brought chess to Saffron Walden town centre on Saturday. He played blitz chess, games of which can only last a maximum of six minutes, outside the library in the market square throughout the morning.Greg said: "The day went very well, a fair amount of interest was shown and it looks like we might actually get a chess club in Saffron Walden soon."Greg blitzed the opposition, playing and winning 20 games against about 15 different opponents. The fast-paced style of play in blitz chess meant that Greg had a sizeable advantage over first-time players. He said: "I think our next job will be to try and find a venue for the club."Anyone who would be interested in joining a Saffron Walden chess club should contact Greg by telephone on 01799 508509 or email him at greg@gtfs.co.uk
