Charity drive is not a load of hot air

A BALLOON race run by an estate agents has helped a year-long fundraising program float past the £15,000 mark.
To celebrate its 21st anniversary, Mullucks Wells initiated a charity cash drive for 12 months from April this year to support the work of West Essex Mind.
The race at the Countess or Warwick’s Show raised £300, meaning the Dunmow branch of the agency has now sailed past £5,000 – they are also donating £100 for every property they sell before April 2012.
Staff from both the estate agency and the charity invited visitors to pay £1 for a balloon, uniquely marked with an identification ticket. The one that travels the furthest will win a prize.
Anyone finding a ticket is asked to fill in the details and post it back, detailing where it was found. The finder of the furthest balloon will also win a prize.
Tim Trembath of Mullucks Wells said: “This was a great event and it gave us an ideal opportunity to work with our chosen charity, Mind – not only to raise money, but also increase awareness of the tremendous work they do in this area.
“We hope everyone enjoyed it and we look forward to finding out just how far our balloons have travelled.”
Throughout the year, the company is holding money making events. Staff will also be providing “hands on” support to their charity to help establish new projects.
Director William Wells added: “Not only will we be raising and giving vital funds to a worthwhile cause, but we also want to get our hands dirty.
“It’s been a huge privilege to work in this community for 21 years and now it’s our chance to give something back.”
West Essex Mind supports people affected by mental ill health, including patients and those around them.
It is looking to develop its services to 15 to 19 year olds through a pilot scheme at the Helena Romanes School and Mullucks Wells are supporting that new venture.
