THE new president of the Probus Club of Dunmow and District was officially handed his chain of office at a ceremony at The Farmhouse Inn, on Wednesday.

Dick Langstaff received the chain from outgoing president The Rev Peter Street at the club's AGM held at the restaurant in Monk Street, where it now regularly holds events.

Mr Langstaff said: "I am looking forward to my term as president for the next 12 months, especially working with the rest of the committee to begin organising the celebrations for our 20th anniversary in 2009.

"Our move has allowed us to increase our membership numbers and reduce the length of our waiting list so I am also looking forward to seeing the club continue to go from strength to strength."

Rev Street said: "I've had an excellent year being president, and I wish Dick every success in his year as president."

The club was also invited by the Farmhouse Inn to place the Probus plaque on the inner wall of the restaurant to acknowledge they regularly meet there.

The Probus Club of Dunmow and District is a luncheon club with 54 members. It meets at the Farmhouse Inn on the first Wednesday of each month.
