BOOKWORM brownies from Stebbing have been successful in gaining proficiency badges just months after joining a new group.

The 2nd Stebbing brownie group was formed by 'Tawny Owl' Sarah White and her assistant Lorraine Irani eight weeks ago.

Mrs White said: "The girls have been busily working away to get their book badge. It takes around eight weeks to complete and sees them reading, reviewing and researching books, and learning how to use libraries."

A talk from library supervisor, Glenda McCoyd, showed the girls how to use the library facilities, including reading through encyclopaedias.

In all 16 brownies finished their badge work at Dunmow Library and will be presented with them at the start of April.

The brownies are a pre-group to the Girl Guides for six to 11-year-olds. To join the Stebbing group call Mrs White on 01371 856032.
