Braintree District Council cutting opening hours at information centres to save thousands

PUBLISHED: 13:16 10 June 2011

BRAINTREE District Council is reducing the opening hours of two of its information centres in a cost-cutting exercise.

The reduction, supported by 90 per cent of residents who responded to the council’s ‘Your Council Your Say’ survey on spending, will enable a saving of £135,000 over four years.

From July 1, the new opening hours at Causeway House will reduce by 30 minutes: 9am – 5pm Monday to Friday

The new customer service centre opening hours will reduce by one hour: 8.30am – 5pm Monday to Friday.

For telephone calls outside of these hours customers will get the normal out of hours message which directs them to the website, automated lines or, in the case of an emergency, allows them to go through to a duty officer.

Cabinet member for efficiency and resources Cllr Chris Siddall said: “This is a very simple step we can take to make a significant saving that will have very little impact on residents.

“We continue to look for and implement measures that will bring greater efficiencies whilst protecting frontline services.”
