THE fascinating history of a legendary London music venue has been recounted in a new book by former landlord Terence Murphy, who moves to Dunmow this month.

Mr Murphy was at the helm of Canning Town venue The Bridge House during the 1970s, when bands like Iron Maiden, Dire Straits and Depeche Mode began their careers in the pub.

To celebrate the book launch, The Bridge House, Canning Town: Memories of a Legendary Rock and Roll Hangout, a special reunion gig was held in the pub.

Mr Murphy said: "What a night! One of the most amazing things was the smiles on everyone's faces when we met again - sheer joy and happiness!"

Musicians who began their careers in the pub played at the reunion, including Iron Maiden's Dennis Stratton and singer-songwriter Chris Thompson.

Mr Murphy's son, London's Burning actor Glenn Murphy OBE, was also at the gig as well as many other figures from the music industry of yesteryear.
