RECOGNISE any of these young faces?

The Scouting movement celebrates its centenary next year and here are a few pictures of the Dunmow Scout Group from yesteryear.

One family, the Arnolds, has had three generations in the group and has supplied the photos you see here.

"I remember a reunion in Dunmow back in 1984, some people came from America to be there," said Peggy Maybanks, whose then husband John Arnold, along with his brother Terry, were in the scouts during the late 1930s.

"We all went to a dinner in the town. It was very strange because two days later my husband died from a heart attack, so I kept all the reports and photos."

The brothers were well known after winning several titles in the Scouts national soap box racing contest.

Peggy and John's sons, also called John and Terry, then followed in their father's footsteps in the late '60s and then Mrs Maybanks' grandson Jonathan, took part in the 1984 Gang Show.

The group, currently led by Rodney Martin, is planning an exhibition in the town museum next year, which will also mark 70 years of the Dunmow Scout Hut, and is keen to hear from anyone else with memories of being a Cub or Scout.
