Barnston villagers hold Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations... Take 2

IT was like a scene from the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee all over again as hundreds of people turned out for a street party in Barnston.
The Big Lunch was organised by residents in response to a similar street party held to celebrate Her Majesty’s milestone in July 2012. Then it was held in appalling weather. Guests had a good time but asked if it could be held again... in better climes!
Hence The Big Lunch.
About 200 people joined in on the second celebration held in and around the village hall.
John Farrow, one of the organisers, said: “It is a great way of pulling the community together. People enjoyed the street party last year and asked if we could hold one again this year.
“It went very well, despite a slow start. When everybody got there they all had a good time.”
He added: “We plan to make it an annual event and it will be even bigger and better next year.”
There was plenty of entertainment to keep adults and children busy during the day, including martial art displays and live singing performances.
The event also raised more than £200 for the Barnston Village Hall Fund.
The organisers would like to thank everyone who helped out on the day, including Chapslee restaurant which provided sample curry dishes for £1, and the WI who ran the tea and cake stalls.
