The proud winner of this year’s Shop Window competition was announced this week, in the run up to Dunmow Carnival.
Dan Tucker, owner of Bakewell, a patisserie in Market Place, was awarded a trophy and a certificate for his shop front on the super hero theme.
With the help of Chelsea Parratt, the shop displayed racks of cakes decorated with Spiderman, Superman and Batman, and hanging from the ceiling were comic book phrases – bake, yum, and cake, instead of using the classics – pow, wow, and bam.
Dan said: “It’s just brilliant because we have put a lot of effort into it. The theme helped us because it worked for us, we can do something with cakes.”
Bakewell came runner-up last year when the theme was cities.
The Runner-ups this year were The Rose Garden, of The High Street, with their display which took a different, pun-filled twist on heros and villains – Sherlock Holmes and the Hound of the Basketvilles.
Terry Jack, who owns the shop with his daughter, Stephanie Harris, said: “We needed a hero and we didn’t want a proper villain in a flower shop.
