AN Atlantic rower record holder joined the Rotary Club of Dunmow as it marked Richard Amott’s year as club president.

Charlie Pitcher, who earlier this year broke the record of sailing solo across the ocean – he completed the 2,900 mile journey in just over 35 days, beating the previous record by more than five days – and his wife Emma joined Rotarians and guests, including the outgoing district governor Adrian Philips, at a dinner held at Square 1 restaurant.

The event included a champagne reception and three-course meal before past president Peter Fox presented Mr Amott with a chronicle and photo album of his year as president.

Mr and Mrs Pitcher then gave a tal,k thanking the club for sponsoring the two charities benefitting from the record breaking row across the Atlantic.
