Two officers helped save the life of a woman who collapsed at Stansted Airport on Tuesday (January 12).

Police constables Matthew Kemp and Ryan Mitcham were in the arrivals concourse shortly before 9am when they were alerted to an unconscious woman.

They found the woman slumped over and unconscious and put her in the recovery position.

The woman then stopped breathing and went into cardiac arrest. Pc Kemp started CPR while Pc Mitcham got a defibrillator and connected it to the woman.

She began to recover initially but stopped breathing again and remained in a serious condition.

Paramedics were on the scene within seven minutes and took over from the officers. They were able to restart the woman’s heart before taking her to Princess Alexandra Hospital, in Harlow, from where she was later discharged.

The staff from the East of England Ambulance Service said the woman would not have lived if it were not for the actions of the officers.

Pc Kemp said: “As police officers we are trained to deal with situations where life is at risk. Our training kicked in and after giving CPR to the lady for around 20 minutes, she regained consciousness. I’m pleased that we were able to help and grateful for the support and assistance of our emergency service colleagues.”
