TEACHERS and pupils all over the Dunmow area have been raising money for Children in Need by taking part in fund-raising events ranging from wearing pyjamas to baking cakes to sell.

Helena Romanes School in Great Dunmow arranged a cake stall where sixth form students were invited to bake cakes to be sold to fellow students with all the proceeds going to the charity.

One student in particular made a real effort. Jake Cannon got up at 6am on the day of the sale to bake a cake. He said: "It was really early and hard to get out of bed because of the cold, but it was well worth the effort."

In addition to the cake sale, which raised £123, all students were asked to take in their old mobile phones and for every one handed in the school gave the Children In Need fund £5.

Headteacher Matt Fletcher said: "We managed to raise £800 from the mobile phone scheme, it is the first time we have tried it and it has been a rousing success."

At Finchingfield CofE Primary School teachers also got in on the act as they joined pupils in wearing pyjamas for the day. Headteacher Paula Hagan said: "We managed to raise £75 by charging the children £1 to wear pyjamas.

"For a small school like ours it was a good effort, the children love doing things like that and it is for a great cause."

One pyjama wearing child said: "We wouldn't want to do it everyday because it's cold, but we are loving it.
