THAXTED Festival got off to a fine start at the weekend with a selection of concerts that guaranteed something for everyone.
Opening the four-week festival on Friday was the Szymanowski Quartet who made a welcome return after giving an outstanding concert at last year's event.
Saturday morning's family concert by trumpeter Crispian Steele-Perkins was a hit for everyone.
His demonstration of
how musical instruments can be made from every day items had the audience captivated and will no doubt have resulted in many returning home to try out their musical skills on length of hose-pipe.
In the year that celebrates the 40th anniversary of the release of Sgt Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band, it seems only fitting fans of The Beatles had something to mark the occasion.
The Cavern Beatles gave a solid performance of many of the lesser known songs.
The weekend's events drew to a close on Sunday by the City of London Sinfonia conducted by Dominic Wheeler, and a performance by a finalist of last year's BBC Young Musician of the Year, pianist Cordelia Williams.
Joining them were 30 children from Thaxted who had composed a song.
