Walkers in the countryside between Takeley and Little Canfield say they have been left with an 'eyesore' following work on new homes.

Weston Homes have almost completed their Flitch View development on the B1256, between the two villages.

George Panayi, who lives in Little Canfield and works in Takeley, said: "Flitch walkers have been left with an eyesore.

"The path has been churned up by the diggers reversing backwards and forwards, and trees have been uprooted.

"I spoke to the fencing contractor and there’s no plan to replace any trees nor will the cheap fencing panels be stained in any kind of way.

"I and others walk our dogs along this part of the Flitch and it is not very pleasant to look at."

George suggested that the view would be improved if the fences were painted to be camouflaged with their surroundings, or if the uprooted trees and shrubs were replaced.

A spokesperson from Weston Homes said: "Weston Homes have reviewed the situation on the ground there.

"The brand new fence section is well finished and tidy; its colour is as per new fence panels and will fade in time.

"Weston Homes do not propose to stain it another colour which would require ongoing maintenance at the cost of our homes’ future owners.

"The soil is level and tidy, and nature will now take its course.

"For Weston Homes, a sensitive approach at each site we develop is of paramount importance. Weston Homes has won the Gold Award for Best Medium-Size Housebuilder at both the annual 2022 and 2023 WhatHouse? Awards and also won awards for our environmental sustainability.”

"With newly completed developments there is always a little time needed to sort out any final snags or development boundary presentation but Weston Homes is committed to ensuring that we can be proud of each of the schemes we deliver and that they are welcomed by the local community"

Flitch View is an exclusive gated community of eight four and five-bedroomed houses, ranging from £950,000 to £1,200,000.

The homes include "private gardens within a desirable new neighbourhood and an abundance of green open space".
