The Hundred Parishes Society - which provides information on parishes in north west Essex, north east Herts and south Cambridgeshire - has updated its website with new articles.

Parishes covered include the majority of towns and villages in the Great Dunmow and Saffron Walden areas, with a full list available at https://hundredparishes.org.uk/parishes/parish-list/.

The most significant change to the website is the addition of a section called 'articles'.

This section consists of around 80 pages, exploring aspects of the Hundred Parishes in more detail such as walks and community events, to complement the existing introductory pages to individual parishes.

Visitors to the website can read short essays on a variety of topics, ranging alphabetically from almshouses to workhouses.

Most of the articles started out as submissions to local parish magazines, and have been expanded for the website.

Along with introductory articles about the Hundred Parishes Society's origins, aims and activities, there are articles on aviation, different aspects of churches, landscapes, listings, museums, parish names, pub names, village halls, village signs and more.

The expansion of the website has also enabled the society to include around 600 additional photos, and the articles section is expected to grow over time and incorporate new subjects.

Articles are available to read at https://hundredparishes.org.uk/articles/.

The Hundred Parishes Society is a registered charity whose main aim is to increase knowledge and appreciation of the local area.

Feedback on their work is welcomed, whether to report a problem, expand on a particular subject or just to express an opinion on what the society is doing or could do.

The society particularly relies on feedback to keep its What's On page up to date, and to keep the contact details current within the parish introductions.

Details that require the most frequent changes usually relate to pubs either closing, reopening or changing their contact details.

The society's trustees are asking residents to take a fresh look at the website, find something to interest them and be inspired to investigate further - whether online or by following one of the suggested walking routes on foot.

New members are encouraged and welcomed.
