Thaxted Festival, which ended on Sunday, July 9, saw audiences up 17 per cent on the previous year.

There were 20 events taking place over four weeks at Thaxted's historic parish church, with performers including Benjamin Appl, London Mozart Players, Julian Bliss, Tippett Quartet and Orchestra of the Swan.

A spokesman for the festival said: "The fantastic response from our audiences has been overwhelming, with many saying this was the best festival for years.

"It’s a tribute to all the hard work that goes into organising a large-scale event such as this and wouldn’t be possible were it not for an army of local volunteers."

A mini-festival is taking place on November 18 and 19. Details will be released at on Monday, July 24.
