Felsted School has been shortlisted for 'Boarding School of the Year 2023' by the Times Educational Supplement (TES).

The mixed independent boarding and day school, which is among eight national finalists, has 1,000 pupils age four to 18.

Headteacher Chris Townsend said: "We are delighted to be one of eight schools in the country to be shortlisted for this prestigious award, which recognises the hard work being put in across the school by pupils, staff and parents.

"Felsted is more than just a school, it is a way of life, and the boarding ethos helps to make it such a strong community.

"Through this, students are encouraged to develop as individuals and to go out and make a positive difference in the world, wherever they end up and whatever they are doing."

Felsted aims to offer a forward-looking academic programme, which evolves to embrace the latest thinking, approaches and technologies.

While at the school, pupils are given opportunities to discover their talents and explore their enjoyment of sports and the arts.

Felsted also offers a range of activities, clubs and societies, which the school says are "designed to develop the personal attributes and characteristics that will enable each Felsted pupil to make an active contribution to society and find fulfillment in adult life".

The TES Boarding School of the Year award is assessed by a panel of expert judges, including school leaders and education researchers.

According to TES, schools are judged not just on the basis of academic achievement, but on the "innovation, imagination and effort that goes into developing children in ways that go beyond the league tables".

Jon Severs, TES editor and chief judge at the TES Schools Awards, said: "With these awards we honour the education community, whom we have served for over 112 years.

"This year has seen some incredibly high quality entries. So every teacher and school who has been named in this shortlist should be very proud – it’s a fantastic achievement."

The 2023 winner will be announced at the TES School Awards Ceremony on Friday, June 23, at London's Grosvenor Park Hotel.
