Dominic Ball cannot wait to run out in front of 50,000 fans for Rangers at the Ibrox Stadium.

The 20-year-old defender from Welwyn has secured a season-long loan move to the Scottish Championship giants from his parent club Tottenham Hotspur.

Ball, who had a loan spell with Sky Bet League Two Cambridge United last season, drove to Scotland on Thursday and passed a medical, was unveiled as a temporary Rangers player on Friday and was an unused substitute in Sunday’s 5-1 win at Alloa Athletic.

Speaking exclusively to the Welwyn Hatfield Times, Ball could not contain his delight with the move and his desire to make his home debut. He said: “I can’t wait for that, I’m so excited.

“One of the first things I thought about was playing in front of 50,000 fans.

“Everyone knows about Rangers and Celtic, they are two of the biggest clubs in Britain. Four seasons ago [2011/12] Rangers were in the Champions League.

“Size-wise they are bigger than most of the Premier League teams.”

Ball will be joined in the Rangers squad by fellow Spurs youngster Nathan Oduwa who has also moved north of the border on loan.

“It makes it easier that you know someone, especially the first few days when you are getting to know everyone,” said Ball who has played for England U19s and U20s, having previously represented Northern Ireland at younger age groups.

About how the opportunity came about he said: “I’d been looking to get out on loan again.

“Tottenham played Rangers in pre-season, I didn’t play, but manager Mark Warburton is now Rangers manager and I played under him at Watford’s academy so he knew me from there and they were looking for a central defender.

“I’m determined to work hard to get into the team and help them win promotion back to the SPL.”

Ball’s father Tim is a former footballer having played for Stevenage and is now coach of Welwyn Garden City’s U18s.

Ball added: “My dad said ‘It’s a massive opportunity and good for your football’, he’s as excited as I am.”

Ball could make his Rangers debut tonight (Wednesday) at Ayr United in the Scottish Challenge Cup second round.
