DUNMOW'S Blue Chip Business Centre has launched its 2009 Operation Christmas Child Campaign.

The Shoe Box Appeal runs from now until mid November. Last year Blue Chip collected 66 boxes and this year is looking to collect even more.

Business centre manager, Alison Legerton, said: "People showed wonderful generosity last year and we need their help to keep this effort going. There are many places where children are suffering from natural disasters, illness, war and poverty.

"The simple act of packing a shoebox with a few gifts has a huge impact on them, and their families, too."

It may be small but your gifts can change a child's life. For some of the world's most disadvantaged children, your shoebox could be the first Christmas present they have ever received in their lives.

Shoeboxes have a very positive impact on the children receiving them, as many would have nothing at Christmas time if it were not for these gifts. It reminds these children that someone is thinking of them and has taken time to choose presents for them.

To collect a leaflet with more information drop into Blue Chip or guidelines can be found at www.operationchristmaschild.org.uk

A 2.50 contribution towards transport, processing and distribution should be included.

Shoeboxes can be dropped off at Blue Chip Business Centre, The Old Exchange, Mill Lane, Great Dunmow Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm until mid November.

Blue Chip is also running a Children's Christmas Card Competition and would like local children to get involved.

There are two age groups - eight and under, and nine and over - and the winning designs will be printed as the 2009 Blue Chip Christmas Cards. Winners will be presented with art materials kits to nurture their talents. Closing date for entries is Friday October 30.
