NEW owners have been draught-ed in to reignite the spirit of an old pub in Great Dunmow after it fell flat before the credit crunch even started.

The Angel & Harp, in Church End, has been empty for over two years.

But, after numerous bids and failed plans, it has finally been handed over to new owners who already know how to make a success story out of a traditional watering hole.

Pub and restaurant company, Marjoram Leisure Ltd - launched by David and Shelia Hunt 13 years ago - has taken over the freehold of the pub as part of a company expansion in the area.

And plans are already in motion for a major refurbishment.

"We are planning to redecorate the interior of the Angel & Harp and refresh the pub's menu using quality locally sourced ingredients. We also intend to install a pizza oven to meet local demand," said Mr and Mrs Hunt.

"Meals will be served throughout the day and the patio and garden will be the focus of al fresco eating when the weather permits."

As well as owning another pub in Chelmsford, the couple will be best known as the owners of the Axe and Compasses in Aythorpe Roding - one of the most popular pubs in the area.

The Angel & Harp already has the benefit of two bars with a combined total of 40 seats, a 32-seat restaurant, three en-suite letting bedrooms, a 20-space car park, and a beer garden.

The deal brokers, Christie and Co, who helped purchase the pub on behalf of the couple, has said that it has complete faith in the Hunts turning the fortunes of the pub around.

Director Bill Colquhoun said: "Marjoram Leisure has established a reputation for developing pubs from little or no profit into thriving businesses. We are confident that it will repeat this success with its latest two acquisitions."
