DECLAN Corr, Tommy Mears, Charlie Oliver, Amrik Braico and James Inkley represented Henham & Ugley Primary School at the county chess championships -the Megafinals - on Sunday.
For new boys Declan and Tommy, this was their first Megafinal and they both did very well. Declan just missed out on qualifying for the Southern England championships in July (known as the Gigafinals.)
Charlie managed a respectable total of 2.5 points and Amrik won four points out of six. This means he has qualified for the Gigafinals at Reading on July 14.
James had an excellent tournament winning all six matches and receiving the winner’s trophy as the Essex county U9 champion. He will accompany Amrik to the tournament in July.
