AN up-and-coming musician has taken his first steps towards fame after releasing his debut single.

Glenn Godfrey, 19, uploaded his song, titled I’m Young, as a free download on website ReverbNation last month. Since then his single has become the 10th most popular song on the website and an accompanying music video, posted on YouTube, has attracted more than 1,000 views.

The Takeley teenager said: “I’m happy to have got all the attention. It’s not something that I was expecting and a huge compliment for me personally.

“I’ve been working hard on my music and, with the help of my friends, I’m working on a few more singles to release in the next few months.

“There’s a lot of ideas in our heads and we’ll release the singles as free downloads, but we have no dates in mind yet.”

The next goal for Glenn, a performing arts student at Harlow College, is to release an album, which is currently unnamed, before performing on the main stage at Bunts Fest, a new musical festival in Hertfordshire on June 22.

The former Stansted Mountfitchet School pupil was approached by organisers of the festival after they heard his song online.

“Performing live is something I absolutely love doing and I want to get some more gigs lined up, but right now I have got to get the album finished,” he said. “I love performing and I’m really looking forward to it. It’s quite flattering to be asked to perform and be placed on the main stage.”

Last year Glenn – who performed under the stage name of Godfrey – was approached by a talent scout from record label BGM at the Open Mic UK talent search.

As revealed in the Broadcast, he finished ahead thousands of hopeful musicians to reach the regional final but narrowly missed out on a slot in the grand final.

“BGM gave me some pointers and tips that has pushed me in the right direction and that was very helpful for me and a definite turning point,” said Glenn.
