TO bee or not to bee ... that was the question posed in Takeley last Thursday as primary school pupils celebrated a ‘Bee Day’.
The primary school, that keeps beehives, focused its learning around bees to enable children to learn more about the busy insects.
Staff and children from Charlton Manor Primary School, in London, which has kept bees for a number of years, visited the Uttlesford school to help out on the day, while members of the Saffron Walden Bee Keeper’s Association shared their knowledge and expertise.
All the children and staff dressed in yellow and black for the day, and took part in various activities which included cooking with honey. They also had a chocolate-honey cake desert with their school lunches.
A school spokesman said: “We’d like to say a big thank you to teacher Kimberly Griffiths, who made the vision reality by bringing the bees to our school, and for starting a Takeley Buzz club where the children work very closely with the bees and care for their hives.”
