A 33-year-old Saffron Walden man has been arrested after the severed head of a deer was left on a supermarket self-service checkout.
The innards of the animal were also found in one of the aisles of the Tesco store on Radwinter Road.
Officers were called to the shop in the early hours of June 4.
The man has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage, and has been released on police bail.
