A MOTHER-OF-TWO is “absolutely thrilled and delighted” to have been voted in as the new district councillor for the Felsted ward.

Conservative Marie Felton won the seat in a by-election last week following the resignation of Cllr David Crome, who was forced to stand down following his failure to attend any council meetings over a six-month period.

She polled 557 votes – 54.1 per cent of the overall vote.

Miss Felton, 38, told the Broadcast: “I am really grateful to each and every person who voted for me in the parish of Felsted.”

Miss Felton decided to run for the Uttlesford District Council seat as she had spare time on her hands and wanted to invest it into the village.

When asked why she wanted to become the district councillor, she added: “There are lots of things in this village, like the community centre, and I want to encourage people to use the facilities.

“I also want to get involved with the planning application side and pay attention to how they affect the area. I want to get things done.”

Liberal Democrat Antoinette Wattebot was second with 253 votes, UKIP’s Alan Stannard was third with 181 votes and Labour’s Yad Zanganah was fourth with 38 votes.

The turnout was 26.1 per cent and there were two spoiled ballot papers.
