FOUR people were injured in a three-vehicle crash this afternoon (Tuesday).

Emergency services were called to the scene of the head-on collision in London Road, Newport, at about 4.45pm.

An Essex Police spokesman said four people suffered minor injuries, one of which had to be taken to hospital.

Earlier reports suggested six people had been injured.

Two fire crews from Saffron Walden administered first aid to the casualties and an air ambulance was called to the scene.

Officers closed a section of the road south of the village, between the two turnings to Widdington, where the crash happened. It is expected to be re-opened by 6.15pm.
