A Jobcentre Plus training hub could soon be launched in Saffron Walden.
Cabinet member for communities and partnerships, Councillor Howard Rolfe, said Uttlesford District Council (UDC) was working with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to look into the possibility of creating a support service offering help with CV writing and interview techniques.
Speaking at a full council meeting on Tuesday evening (October 8), he told members: “We have been approached about launching a training centre in Saffron Walden, which would run courses like CV writing and interview techniques to help people get back into work.”
Saffron Walden’s jobcentre closed 20 years ago and Cllr Rolfe expressed disappointment one would not be re-established, saying the DWP was not opening any more branches because of Universal Credits.
The plan is to run the training hub from UDC’s London Road base.
