The district’s foodbank has found a new home, after security measures meant it had to relocate from its previous premises at Saffron Walden police station.
A call was made for a new site after the threat to police was raised to ‘severe’ in the wake of the Charlie Hebdo attacks in Paris, leading to Essex Police requesting Uttlesford Foodbank to find a new home.
Within just a few weeks the organisation, which provides emergency food rations to those most in need, has found a new home at the Methodist Church on Castle Street.
“We are very happy to be there,” project coordinator Alan Hawkes told the Reporter, adding that a team of volunteers helped moved the 2.3 tonnes of food from the police houses to the new site, with the food arranged for distribution on the following day.
“Uttlesford Foodbank is very grateful to the Trustees of the Bishops Stortford Methodist Circuit for making the premises available at short notice,” Mr Hawkes added.
