THE latest grants from the Dunmow Mayor's Charity Community Fund were announced on Thursday.

A total of £5700 was allotted to 25 organisations in Dunmow.

Frank Silver, town mayor and fund committee chairman, said: "I am absolutely thrilled by the range of organisations, activities and age groups the fund has been able to help. My thanks to all who have helped raise the money to do this."

Tom McGuirk, organiser of the Dunmow & District community fund, said: "The amalgamation of the Mayor's fund and the Community Fund to form this has been an outstanding success.

"The effectiveness and wide range of the new fund should make it very attractive to sponsors."

Among those receiving grants were Barnston Youth Football Club who got £200, the same amount went to Dunmow Cricket Club and Dunmow Rhodes Youth football Club received £300.

Dunmow Players were awarded £400 for an electronic keyboard.

Sue Hartwell, press officer for the Dunmow Players, said; "Our current keyboard is well past its sell-by date and some of the keys don't work. A new keyboard will not only improve our rehearsals, but will also mean we can put on shows at a wider number of venues such as elderly residential homes."

Each production the Players put on costs thousands of pounds and the costs of orchestras, costumes and props means they struggle to put a show on.

Dunmow Cricket Club is using its money to replace the practice nets that were stolen last year.

"We are very grateful to receive this money from the fund," said cricket development officer Nick Down.

"A new net costs £350 and is an essential thing to have for practice. "This money means we can now place an order for the nets straight away and have everything ready for when we start our practice sessions in April.
