A FINCHINGFIELD church has been granted £8000 for a new roof.
The Grade I listed St John the Baptist church has received the cash from the English Heritage Lottery Fund and will use it for major repairs and restoration.
It was the only church in Essex to receive a grant from the fund as part of a £600,000 handout for places of worship.
Edwin Collar, church warden for more than 26 years was pleased to be given a boost towards the church's £26,000 total repair bill.
He said: "We've been raising cash through a number of various activities, but this will be a big help."
The work is due to start in the next six to eight weeks.
