A GROUP of residents in Hatfield Broad Oak had to be evacuated from their homes yesterday evening after a car crashed into a gas main, causing it to rupture.
Fire crews from Dunmow, Leaden Roding and Old Harlow were called to the scene in Broad Street at about 7.40pm, where the car had also smashed into a terraced house.
The gas board were called, along with police, and around 12 residents had to be cleared from their houses as a precaution.
The gas main was sealed off and firefighters had dealt with the incident by 9.30pm. No-one was injured.
