A PUB in Finchingfield has donated £1000 from a New Year's Eve party to a local primary school.

Owners of the Red Lion pub handed over the cash to children and teachers of Finchingfield C of E Primary School on Tuesday morning.

Delighted headteacher, Paula Hagan, said: "This donation is a terrific boost for our ongoing school minibus fund. Thanks to pub owners David and Iain and the support of everyone who was at the pub on New Year's Eve our plans are well on the road to being realised."

The grand total was raised at a 'Night at The Oscars' themed party, attended by about 150 people.

Pub owner, David Wooller, said: "We raised money through ticket sales, a bucket on the bar and our own donation. The party was a fabulous way to see in 2009, and all for a good cause.

"This is the first of many events we have planned for 2009 in aid of the school, which is really thriving these days. It's important to us to be part of such a strong village community.
