THE demise of Great Dunmow's auction sale rooms is a significant loss to the town, lowering its status as a trading centre considerably, and reducing the variety of local amenities only equalled by the loss of the cinema, also due to changing business economics.
The loss is far greater then the loss of some local food shops after Tesco opened. Food is still available in abundance, but auction sales will from now only exist far away.
Too far to make casual visits to see what is available or to find a long desired object.
I have lived here for 71 years, the antique sales in particular made Great Dunmow know countywide to seekers of antiques.
