THE recycling of our waste is essential to cut down the valuable resources of our planet ('What a waste', letters, Dunmow Broadcast, April 12), and I am delighted that the proposed recycling unit is near the town centre, as this will encourage more people to use it.

There is just no point in setting up such a facility miles outside the town as residents will not take their rubbish to it in their cars.

I hope the county council is correct in its claims that the rubbish will not be on site long enough to cause an odour problem but the only way we can find out for sure is if the facility is actually set up and used.

Then if there is still a problem, it will need to be addressed. But don't write it off without trying it.
