With reference to the story in The Broadcast 'Protest Falls on Deaf Ears' the residents of Berbice Lane should know that this is not the first time Uttlesford District Council (UDC) has been involved in the destruction of trees with no prior warning to those who live next to them.

A while ago you published a letter from a gentleman in Dunmow who was angry that a large section of woodland had been felled in Dunmow, again by Wickfords, with no prior consultation with local residents.

I replied and you published my letter detailing how the council had allowed the felling of six historic trees on Station Road in Felsted, with no prior consultation and no attempt to find an alternative solution.

UDC has a tree for its logo and is very fond of saying how it cares about the environment. This is clearly not the case when commercial interests are involved.

Please Dunmow Broadcast - make our environment a priority in your paper - and shame UDC into changing its policy, so that local residents are consulted before any significant group or single outstanding tree is allowed to be felled.

The councillors in Saffron Walden make decisions that affect local residents with no appreciation of the devastating effect such decisions can have.

They act within the law and therefore feel that they don't have to account for their actions.

By spotlighting such behaviour your paper can help to make them realise that local residents demand a say in planning decisions that affect them.
