I would point out that there is nothing wrong with the shops he so derides. Looking at the shop stock in the town, the blame can be summed up in one word - Tesco. When it was first announced that Tesco were coming to Dunmow, I phoned Uttlesford District Council and asked why they were permitting Tesco in the town.
The answer I got was appalling, being that the council could not fight Tesco because they were too powerful and would defeat the council in any High Court action.
In short, the council was afraid of Big Brother.
How many of the people living on the new estate moved there because this is a good part of the country to live in or just to be near to Tesco? I for one have never been to Tesco and never will.
