I AGREE with every word of Paul Robinson's letter (Postbag, September 18).
I have seen the Essex Air Ambulance in action when they attended an accident during a motocross event at Ugley, their prompt attendance and professional expertise were much appreciated by all concerned. I am amazed that funding for their vital service is not provided by the NHS.
This new idea of having helicopters hovering in the skies of Essex is just another stage in distancing the police from the people they serve.
The town's shiny new police station is situated well away from the town instead of being at its centre.
The sight of a real policeman or policewoman walking along the High Street is so rare that it causes comment.
In the days before political correctness the police were there on our streets, dealing with people face to face, preventing some crime by their mere presence.

The national press recently reported that police officers are 'disappointing the public' an admission by Ian Johnston, President of the Police Superintendents Association.
Law abiding citizens welcome face to face interaction with police officers and are sometimes in a position assist with timely information. If we exceed the speed limit then stop us and give us a ticket, but do it face to face.
