I am shocked by the attitudes expressed in your lead article (August 17) on the plans by UDC to house Lebanese evacuees in Leaden Roding.
Just because they are evacuees it doesn't necessarily follow "it just wouldn't be safe any more". The council has to house these people and vacant properties are there to be inhabited.
Whatever your politics, these people have been displaced through no fault of their own. Yes, the war in Lebanon is far away and perhaps easily ignored, but we are citizens of a country which has (at times) helped create and maintain the conflicts in the Middle East. We can't just turn our backs on the results.
