This has got to be Government led. France and Ireland do not provide plastic bags, and if customers need bags they have to buy the bag for life.

I work in a supermarket and trialled not giving carrier bags for one week; instead we gave a bag for life. Many customers thought it was a good idea, but it only took a few abusive customers for management to abandon the trial.

Customers want the plastic bags to line their bins and to put their dog mess in! Why should the supermarkets provide bags for this, customers should buy their own bags for this. Good luck to Dunmow for this initiative
