SWITCHING off streetlights to me seems a very draconian measure taking us back literally to the dark ages (Broadcast page nine, Thursday May 17).

Whatever happened to energy saving light bulbs and the new generation street lamps which are more directional and save energy by minimising light pollution.

I am quite happy leaving on a low energy light outside my property all night to deter loiterers and intruders, I think our council should take a similar stance.
