BRIAN Ross, the self-styled 'economics adviser' for the Stop Stansted Expansion campaign group calls on BAA to invest in new and improved rail links.

Surely, though, it should be Network Rail and the train operators that pay for new infrastructure, if it's necessary?

The train companies take your money (an ever increasing amount of cash, too) for using the service, they operate a commercial business so they should foot the bill - they will also make a profit given any increase in usage, so what's the problem.

I wonder if Mr Ross would apply this logic if it didn't concern the airport. Should firms looking to base themselves in London pay for passengers using Liverpool Street? Somehow, I doubt it.
