Tweets about "#Vfestival"
The annual V Festival takes place over the penultimate weekend in August each year and is held across two sites – Hylands Park in Chelmsford and Weston Park in South Staffordshire.
Over the years big names including Travis, Pulp, Suede, Blur, The Prodigy, Stereophonics, The Verve, Green Day, Coldplay, Kings of Leon, David Guetta and Robbie Williams have played V with a greater emphasis on pop acts in more recent years.
Double the fun
The line-up for each site is the same, with bands playing one venue on the Saturday and the alternate park on the Sunday.
Dating back to 1996, the concept was originally dreamt up by Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker, who announced he would love to play two outdoor venues in two days.
Pulp’s promoters set about organising a gig in Victoria Park, Warrington, and another in Chelmsford, and the idea then spiralled.
Other bands got involved and it was decided to add a second stage, then the idea of a festival with overnight camping was thrown in. Victoria Park was too small to stage a full-on festival so the 1996 event comprised a single day of music in the north, with a two-day extravaganza in Essex.
Camping was introduced in 1997 when the northern leg moved to Temple Newsam in Leeds for V97 and the event grew again in 1999 when it moved Staffordshire.
The headline acts for V2013 are Beyonce and Kings of Leon, Scouting for Girls, Basement Jaxx, Calvin Harris and James will make return appearances. Other acts include Jessie J, Labrinth, Two Door Cinema Club, The Saturday’s and Rudimental.
